Kick off
Before embarking on any website design project for a client, it's crucial to first immerse myself in understanding their organisation. I found that spending time in their workspace, whether it's having a coffee with the team or even shadowing them for a day, provides invaluable insights into their brand, culture, and values. This hands-on approach allowed me to grasp the essence of their identity and envision potential ideas and themes for the website that resonate with their vision. It’s also an opportunity to gather and organise their branding assets, such as logos, color schemes, and messaging, ensuring consistency throughout the design. Additionally, by understanding their target market and how they want to connect with their audience, I would tailor the website's design to meet both their goals and the needs of their customers, setting the stage for a meaningful and effective online presence.
Research
With having a clearer understanding of the client’s needs, the research phase began. I would start by asking the client if they had any existing designs or websites they admire, as this helps guide the overall aesthetic direction. The process also includes a thorough analysis of competitor websites to gain insights into what works well within the industry. By identifying industry-specific design trends and patterns, I would ensure the final product aligns with both the client’s vision and best practices, while standing out in the competitive landscape.
Website set-up
Once a foundational template for the new website is established, I would integrate the client's content and brand assets, ensuring that the theme is customised to reflect their unique branding. This includes adjusting color themes, typography, and other visual elements to align with their identity. Throughout the design process, the client was able to closely review the work and share their thoughts or suggestions using a convenient "Give Feedback" link. This collaborative approach allowed for continuous input, ensuring the final result perfectly matched the client’s vision and expectations.
Design process
The design process was highly iterative, with continuous collaboration between myself and the client to ensure that each step aligns with their vision. We would work together closely to refine and adjust the design, making sure it accurately reflected their ideas. Before the website went live, I would conduct comprehensive testing to ensure it functions smoothly, performs as intended, and provides a user-friendly experience. This included testing for responsiveness, functionality, and navigation, ensuring the site was intuitive and easy to use for all visitors. By prioritising both design and functionality, I would ensure the final product met the client’s expectations and provided an optimal experience for users.
Launch
The final step involved launching the new website, for which I worked with the client to schedule a launch date. Once the website began to propagate, I closely monitored the process to ensure everything was running smoothly and would provide regular updates to the client until the transition was fully completed. After the website went live, I performed additional tests to double-check that all features and functionalities were working as expected. This included verifying the site's performance across different devices and browsers, ensuring that users had a seamless experience. By maintaining close communication and thoroughly testing the site, I ensured a smooth and successful launch.
Iterative approach
The client's new website is live and accessible to the world, marking a significant milestone in the project. It was an incredibly exciting moment, not just for the client, but for me as well. Each time a site goes live, it serves as a reminder of why I am so passionate about helping individuals and businesses transform their online presence. Being part of their journey and seeing them make a meaningful impact in the digital world is deeply rewarding. It reinforces my commitment to creating exceptional websites that not only look great but also drive real change and success for my clients.
